Windsor chair: antiquing milk paint

Mark, Great note about painting your Windsor chair... I think a milk paint look will be perfect. Somewhere I read that if you pre-finish a surface with white glue (i.e. paint the whole surface with Elmer's Glue,) and then overlay it with milk paint after the glue has dried, the finish will crackle and break up for a really old beat-up antique look. Has anyone tried this technique and did it work?

Liquid Hide Glue works much better. TiteBond has a good brand that does a nice job - for crackle finish.

Best to use two layers of different colors of milk paint. The liquid hide glue is the second layer and the top coat will crackle revealing the contrasting colored base coat.
