erinm
I have a new exterior fiberglass door that was recently stained with Varathane gel stain. One coat was used. The painter did not realize that a small area was still wet prior to applying a top coat and it "pulled" the stain a bit, causing an area of buildup/darker stain. How can this be fixed? He did not want to try removing it and potentially causing more defects in the remainder of the completed areas. Any ideas would be appreciated. wtnhighlander
No experience staining over fiberglass, but on wood, gel stains are often applied over a fully cured topcoat, then topcoated again. It might make the door darker than you expected, but you can try to feather in the light area first, and perhaps avoid recoating the entire door. A photo might help atteact some more experienced advice.
