Popular Post Von
In some episode of Woodtalk, they mentioned The Anarchist's Workbench was available as a free pdf, so I downloaded and read it. It was an interesting read: about 1/2 instructions to build a workbench, 1/4 the history of workbenches, and 1/4 Schwarz's professional journey. I'm far from expert on workbenches (I've built one not very fancy one out of plywood and 2x4s) and felt I learned a lot about about their design, features, and accessories from the book. The history of workbenches was useful for the context of there being no one right way. The plans helped me firm up my goal of building a new bench in a year or two once I get myself a decent jack plane and some practice with it. For free, the book is definitely worth the read. After I read the pdf, I spent the $40 (including shipping) to buy the book because I think I'll enjoy the pictures on paper enough. (I have no relationship with Schwarz or Lost Press.)
