I am getting ready to build a jewlery box for my daughter for her up coming birthday. The box is curly gum pocket cherry and the top is going to be spalted maple. I have never used spatled maple and I am concerend about how to stablize the areas that are soft without effecting the finish. I am looking at just using a oil finish.
