abowers
Hello folks, I have a dining table top with about 7 coats of NC lacquer. I was going to rub it out, but first level sanded with 400 grit, now I have millions of little white dots embedded into the finish. They appear to be deep in the finish, not on the surface. The piece was very clean before I sprayed and these didn’t appear until after the sanding. Any ideas on how or why this happend and is repairable? If it helps, I let it dry for about a week before sanding. Thanks, Aaron
jhl.verona
Aaron, I have no direct experience, but I found this article on my meanderings today. Could it possibly be finish dust, which later cures into the sanded finish? HTH John
abowers
Thanks John, your link did help. My best guess is it was residue from tying to level the surface getting caught in all of the tiny pores that the grain filler did not. What I did was: Used 2 coats Behlen top coat in aerosol. ****at this point the residue in the pores were gone**** To get the mirror shine, I; Sanded at 600 grit Used 1000, 2000 and 4000 Abralon (didn’t get that mirror shine) 4f pumice by hand Rottenstone by hand Rubbing compound Polishing compound Glaze Sorry I did not respond right away. Had to get everything done before my woodworking season is over. Gratefully, Aaron
