Kranzpj Posted February 10, 2013 Report Posted February 10, 2013 I'm maturing from using power handtools on the back porch to setting up a shop in our unfinished basement using large stationary tools, so I'm thinking about dust collection for the first time. Do I need an extractor for both power hand tools (like a 2 1/4" shop vac with a separator) and an extractor for the large stationary tools (like the 3/4 HP Dust Right Wall Mount)? or can I use the 4" Dust Right with a hose reducer with power hand tools? Also, since the air intake for furnace is in the basement am I going to have a issue with ambient dust getting pulled up through the intake and sent in the rest of the house? The furnace filter isn't exactly a HEPA filter. Thanks Quote
Toolferone Posted February 10, 2013 Report Posted February 10, 2013 The easy way I remember it is that small tools small vac. Big tool large dust collector. The shop vac is low volume high velocity and the dust collector is high volume low velocity. Quote
rodger. Posted February 10, 2013 Report Posted February 10, 2013 In short, the answer is yes. There is a lot of info on this forum regarding DC. Use the search feature and you will find a plethora of information. As an aside, it's not your furnace's job to clean the air in your home. A HEPA filter can choke your furnace. Make sure you read your owners manual. The filters job is to protect the motor, which can be done with a coarser filter. Quote
tdale51@yahoo.com Posted February 10, 2013 Report Posted February 10, 2013 There is a mind numbing amount of dust collection information here: www.billpentz.com/woodworking/cyclone/index.cfm It seems to be a well researched page. 1 Quote
