Do you make any of your lathe tools?

The other day, i bought a bag of over sized 1/4" washers.  It's about the size of a quarter and also, it's a thick washer...much thicker than normal.  I put one on a 1/4 bolt and secured it with two jam nuts and mounted it in the drill press.  I put a file on it to sharpen the edge to about 45 degrees. Then I drilled and tapped a piece of 7/16 square stock and mounted the washer on that.  It's no carbide cutter but it did cut really well!  Probably won't last long. Along the same lines, wonder if I can take a piece of the O1 and do the same thing?

In this thread, I'm wondering if anyone has made things like bowl gouges and some unique skews...things like that or any other specialty tools?

you can make a tool like this with a home made handle, pipe nipple as a Ferrule just turn the handle so your pipe nipple fits down into the wood.  then drill a hole drop in a 1/8 ball bearing glue in a shaft bearing and you can use a carving burr to cut a decorative pattern.
