Bschermann
I know nothing about curly maple. The wood is all free. 4 coats spray lacquer only. I only want this pc to look as good as it can. The small blemishes on it only get bigger as I sand. Keeping in mind that I work on a balcony and a few hand tools. Opinions please. It's beautiful wood as is.

wdwerker
If you already have 4 coats of lacquer on it you have missed the chance to really make the curly grain pop. Sand between coats and you will eventually get a smooth surface. You could have used some filler in the flaws and some boiled linseed oil to really make the grain pop before you started with the lacquer. Steve pretty much covered it , the BLO or danish oil would make the figure pop out but you would need to sand back to the bare wood . Looks like you have some tear out thats pretty deep .
