Firehawk
I made a 3 tiered walnut shelf for a friend and am using Arm-R-Seal satin on it. My question is how many coats is reccomended? I have 3 coats and wondered if that is adequate protection.
TerryMcK
On horizontal surfaces I normally put 4 coats. All others get 3
Eric.
Same as Terry. I'll stop at 3 on all parts if it's a low-abuse item. High-abuse like a dining table I'd go as high as five. Any more than that and you start getting plasticky.I like doing my final coat thinned with mineral spirits 50/50. Give it a couple days to a week to cure then polish the surface with a 1000 grit Platin pad lubricated with 50/50 mineral oil/mineral spirits. The longer you wait the better but I've polished the day after the final coat was applied without issue. Baby butt smooth and beautiful.
collinp2
I usually find 3 wiped on coats sufficient for most purposes.
