Kevmc
I am ready to drill the holes in the rail tenons. Whats the proper offset. I can't get to the guild site with this crazy DDoS stuff.
AMarshall
Marc used 1/16" in the soft maple. You may be able to do a little more in softer woods.
allencrane
I used 1/8 in soft maple. Chris Schwarz goes up to 3/16, so I chose to split the difference between the Schwarz and TWW. I used oak dowels and tapered them with no issues in getting them to snug up to the joint. Seeing the glue squeezeout as the dowels tightened the whole thing down was very satisfying. I love these mechanical joints.
thewoodwhisperer
Yeah I agree. It was a very satisfying joint to make. Will consider using this technique more in the future.
