cornballbub
Hey all, I should've tested it first, but its too late now... I used Helmsman satin, however it dried like gloss. Added another coat thinking maybe it would change...just as glossy. Any help? Thanks
cornballbub
Thanks Mike WS Question...the finish is on a long tabletop, would using the steel wool leave an "even finish"? What do you think about wet sanding with 400 - 600 grit paper?
Tpt life
How well did you stir? The de glossing agents are added and settle out leaving gloss finish as the body filler in many cases.
jhl.verona
I'd use steel wool. I used 1000 grit wet and dry with some soapy water, but it just took off the high points - the differences were very obvious. Fortunately, with a little help from my friends, going over it all again with four ought steel wool and mineral oil, I got a much, much better result. Freehand and circular motion got to all the nooks and crannies. Elbow grease from the local hardware store. John
Rick Mosher
+1 on the stirring comment. The flatting paste will settle to the bottom of the can and must be mixed thoroughly before application or else you just have gloss finish. I prefer to use Abralon pads for rubbing out finishes, 1000 grit for a dull finish 4000 grit for around a 50 to 60 degree sheen. Just mist on a little water, put the pad on an orbital sander and you get a perfect rubbed out finish in no time at all.
