ChetlovesMer
Greetings, Not sure if you all have covered this in the forum in the past. But recently I started using dyes and love the results I've been getting. Especially on Walnut and Maple. I like to be subtle in my usage because I really like the look of most woods naturally. But I've had a couple of projects in maple come out a little "washed out" and with just a hint of dye... WOW, it pops! I'd like to hear your thoughts on dyes vs stains. HoboMonk
It's not "either/or". It's sometimes one or the other, and sometimes both.
PaulMarcel
It's not "either/or". It's sometimes one or the other, and sometimes both. Definitely. Add to that toning and glazing with them. Yikes! Chet, search for 'dye' and 'dying' to find other threads that covered this. Might actually be easier to click on Forum then the Finishing subforum. Many topics ask about equalizing tone of a wood or bumping the color towards red or golden, etc. Read those and you'll get a good idea the difference between the two and what they can do.
