Raul Anderson
I cleaned many used boards ( stairs, rafters, posts posts, etc. ) of paint, varnish, and weathering using an angle grinder with a 4-1/2" braided wire wheel. Often the wheel leaves burn marks and sometimes it leaves a nice red/amber hue. It can also leave some boards with a varnish-like finish. I am an amateur and I'm not familiar with the types of wood I am using. Anyone have any info on this ssubject?
wtnhighlander
Photos might help. As a guess, I'd say the results you see are caused by using the wire wheel on woods with different hardness. Some species are hard enough to simply take on a burnished gloss under such treatment, while others are soft enough to carve that way.
