Dave H
i've been bulding a new workbench and want to put a leg vice on it. i've been looking at the shop fox bench screw h5577 in the 2011 grizzly catalog on page 261, it looks like it should do the job my question has anyone ever used this product and if so where you happy with the purchase? also in picture on p 261 it shows the screw, and nut with a flange for bolting to the leg of my bench but it doesn't show any such bracket or flange that would attatch to the jaw of the vice. am i missing something or is there another part thats not showing. i'd really like this to work beacause it's in the budget $31. maybe someone else knows of another bench screw that won't break the bank. my plan B is useing some 1" coil rod and a couple coupler nuts and this idea involves a lot fabricateing that i would like to avoid if possible. dave
wilburpan
The screw itself should be fine. I think the handle on that screw leaves much to be desired, though. An alternative might be the tail vise screw from Lee Valley. It's only $5.50 more, and you will have a thicker screw and a more robust handle. LV sells a handle, but it's very easy to make one instead.
