Tung oil in the kitchen

There are endless discussions on the best finish for cutting boards salad bowls and wood handles on kitchen tools. I used some brand of nut oil finish. Then I mixed mineral oil and bee's wax, that was even less durable than the former. I have heard tung oil is durable and actually dries but takes forever to do so. I usually see it sold mostly for outdoor use. It is not toxic when dry. Any advice? Thanks.
