well what kind of sander are you thinking?? OSS, 1/4 sheet, disc/belt, random orbit?? im guessing a random orbit. i have a black and decker that was reasonable and it had a bunch of "nook and cranny" attachments that came with it. i think it was a step up from the mouse sander. other than that any of the brand names would be good choices. make sure it feels right in your hand before you buy, and check craigslist, some good deals there.

I would say to start with a descent random orbital. Also consider the other essential part of considering a sander. That is dust collection. Many sanders come with a bag; however, I would highly recommend you invest in a vacuum to go with it to help improve dust collection.

I have the dewalt variable speed random orbit sander. I actually haven't used the variable speed feature enough to justify spending the extra bucks. But definitely shoot for a dewalt or the pc, they are good names and if you ever need to they stock the replacement pads right on the shelf at your local lowes. I think thats a nifty feature if you need to replace it in a jiffy.
