bmchan
My outdoor tennis club needed hook to hang clothing and bags on as players entered the courts. I made this out of red oak two years ago with the intention of having a clear finish. I used spar varnish and I believe it was water based. Within the first year it developed this mold/midew. I am going to make a new one and wanted to know what can I use to finish it.

Bobby Slack
I am a big fan of Sikkens. I don't know where you are in California is difficult to get the Cetol 23. The way this works is to use a first coat of Cetol 1 and after drying for a day you use Cetol 23 for two coats. This should work great. Is all I use and have excellent results. AMarshall
I have had good luck with Epifanes Varnish. It's availble from Jamestown Distributors, and is a marine product.
AceHoleInOne
Provided the wood is still good (no cracks or splits) Just wash the wood good with bleach water and a little soap. When dry, do a quick sand and re-coat with a good outdoor finish. I like General Finishes Exterior 450 Clean up the hardware and shoot with a spray of lacquer for protection. -Ace-
