TropicalWW
My latest CraigsList find. A Craftsman 22901 3/4hp drill press. Cost me $75.00. I could tell when I went to look at it that there was quite a bit of wobble to the bit, but it looked like it was the chuck and not the arbor…my dial indicator seems to confirm that. There is almost 0 run-out at the arbor, but about 50 thousands at a bit in the chuck. The chuck looks like it was used as a hockey puck, so this doesn’t surprise me. I’m also going to need a new handle assembly since that was broken, too. Probably $50 to $75 more in replacement parts. So, how’d I do? Seemed like a good deal to me. :-) Does anyone have a recommendation for a replacement chuck? What’s on there now is key-less and I don’t really need that…I’m just fine saving some $$ and using a chuck key. :-) Thanks everyone! :-)
TheNehlsEnd
I would go with a keyed chuck if your hands are anything like mine are. Not to mention cranking down a 2 1/2" forstner bit in the chuck by hand I wouldn't trust. You did good though.
APierce
Grizzly sells all kinds of chucks for many applications. They allow you to mix and match the tapers to the chuck so you have more options.
Dave's Not Here
Sounds like that drill press was knocked over at least once. If a new chuck and handle assy. are all you need to replace to get it back to good then I'd say you did real good.
