NBG
Any opinion regarding good and not so expensive chain mortiser? I just asked my local resseller for prices. they have this one http://service.mafell.de/index.php?IdTreeGroup=12982 that I used when I was still working for someone else. It's great, but... 2700€ with the foot? really?! I know that Makita makes one too. It's still around 1000/1200€, but that already really better. ho and if someone know where to rent that, in belgium, that would be great. but I doubt there are a lot of belgian carpenter out here
Darnell Hagen
I've used the Makita, it's a good tool, very versatile. It's more of a timberframers tool than a furnituremakers, though. If you're doing things like doors, I'd look for a floor standing Wadkin, which is a very good machine and can be found used for low money. I've also used a post mounted Presto, small and compact but also very good.
NBG
We went for the makita. I'm pretty happy about it. It's clearly MUCH heavier than the MAfell. And the fact that your chain turn in the direction of the wood grain is not such a good idea. But it IS less than hal the price, so...
