Delta Planer Problems

I have a older Delta 22-540, 12" portable planer.

I removed and sharpened the blades, using a Mini Planer Pal magnetic jig set.

When I re-installed the blades the feed rollers don't seem to make firm contact and need a gentle 'push' to feed the materiel.

Also, there is a very slight 'washboard' effect to the planed surface.

There were no problems (other than nicked blades) before I sharpened and re-installed them.

Any ideas on what is causing the slipping feed and the wavy, 'washboard' effect or how I might correct them?

Any help would be appreciated.

Stan

Washboard effect is a result of eneven blades. I know this because i got the same result when I did my jointer knives. As far as the rollers go I had a problem with my 22-560 and had to replace the infeed roller after quite a few years of service because it just wasent grabbing the material any more. They say you can clean the rollers and I tried with no favoriable results. With mine one i pulled the infeed roller it was pretty obvious it needed to be changed. Wish you luck.

Thanks for the tip. I think I'll replace the knives with new ones and see if that solves the problem. If I messed up when sharpening them, that should fix it.

I'm also thinking I may have the blades set a little too low which would affect the feed roller pressure.

Appreciate your help.
