chetzajac
Hi All, This is my first post to the forum, so I hope I am asking this in the right place. I just bought a pretty big stockpile of walnut from a guy in my town. Thrown in among the walnut was a random (not-walnut) board. The guy said that all of this stuff was pretty old, he found it in an old barn he was helping someone tear down. They let him take the wood for helping out with the barn. Anyway, I have no idea what it is. I planed one of the sides to get a good look at the face. Also, I don't know if this helps in the identification, but It smells kind of sweet. Here are some pictures. I included a shot next to the walnut, so you can get a good feel for the color. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks, Chet
Tito
It looks like some sort of maple... Can't say for sure.
Keggers
Hello Chet, Looks like cherry to me. Especially when I look at the bark that's left on the edges.
chetzajac
I think you right about it being cherry. I just read somewhere that fresh cut cherry will actually smell like cherries. That sweet smell i mentioned definitly smelled like cherries. Thanks for the replies.
