duckkisser
im trying to put a longer top on a dressor to mount my lathe to. the lathe is 56" inchest long and the dresser is 50" i need to come up with a top that can suport the lathe but stay level over time so that the over hanging top wont sag over time. any recomondations on what to use or how to reinforce it so that it stays level over time? thinking it would be better to have the motor on one side since it ways more so there will be 6 inchest over hanging on the end. Rick LoDico
I should think a double layer of plywood with hardwood edging would work just fine. I doubt there is a need to put the motor anywhere special or make any adjustments because of where it ends up.
duckkisser
i ended up just using a solid wood bench top. it was from a gym that i tore down so it was a true 2 inches of yellow pine. still as strait today as it was 20 years ago when it was made. my lath stand is ugly as sin but it will work.
