DadoHead Posted September 2, 2010 Report Posted September 2, 2010 Has anyone used pre-woven cane to re-cane a chair? My 3.5 year old son somehow created a nice hole in the seat of my chair I use in my office. Any tips would be appreciated! I have found a store that sells the cane, spline and wedges for about $20 including shipping. Quote

Thanks! Quote
dryhter Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 GEEEEEs, don't be in such a hurry!! Give us a chance. Check out this guy I watched and followed his video when re-caning my chairs. Quote
DadoHead Posted September 5, 2010 Author Report Posted September 5, 2010 Thank you! This is exactly what I was looking for! Thanks! Quote
DadoHead Posted September 9, 2010 Author Report Posted September 9, 2010 I haven't had time to take any pictures, but I can say that removing the old banding takes some time. My chair has many curves and bends in the groove and I am removing it by hand with a caning chisel. Quote
DadoHead Posted September 12, 2010 Author Report Posted September 12, 2010 I finished the seat today. It was much easier to remove the old spline by drilling little holes about 1/4 inch apart in the old spline and then using the caning chisel to remove the rest. I enjoyed the project and now I can sit in my chair again! Quote
Lawrence Brown Posted September 15, 2010 Report Posted September 15, 2010 Nice job. Looks just like new! Quote
