wtnhighlander
I'm working on a project that uses a mix of walnut, mulberry, and red oak. I want to try a little Watco Danish Oil with the natural or maybe dark walnut color, mostly to tone down the pinkish color of the red oak. This will be outside, exposed to afternoon sun, but protected from rain under an 8' porch. I figure to top coat with Helmsman Spar Urathane, mostly for the UV protection. Anyone care to offer an opinion on how dark things will get with the danish oil? Or if it is even worth messing with?
wdwerker
You can thin it with natural to tone down the intensity of the color. I have been using Watco for probably 30 years. It's great versitle stuff. Do a little testing on scraps. Just make sure it's cured before you use the varnish. Maybe start with 50/ 50 and see if that's too dark for you.
