TMFoughty
Hello. I just received the wood from Bell Forest to start the kitchen helper from the Wood Whisperer. Is there anyone in or around central Ohio that has a Festool Domino that they would be willing to cut the wood for me? I would pay of course. I like the idea of using the Domino for this project but cannot justify buying one (6 week old baby at home). Thanks for any information or suggestions. Eric.
Wouldn't you rather build it yourself? How about using dowels, or use the router to make the mortises and make your own loose tenons? Or traditional M&T?
rodger.
Even pocket screws would work.
Eric.
Would work...but would be awfully visible on that piece. A dowel jig can be made pretty easily and for zero cost. If it's done right it can be very accurate. I'm not a huge fan of dowels...but if Krenov used them then I think they're probably okay. estesbubba
Haven't seen that project but Miller Dowels might be an option and a contrasting color looks nice. http://www.hartvilletool.com/product/214/dowelling-jigs Here is a crapper I made using them. TMFoughty
I thought about the dowels and M&T. If I cannot find a Domino machine it most likely will be made with M&T. I kind of want to see one to see if it is worth the money (which is out of the question at this time). Chuck Melton
The kitchen helper was my first project with the domino, and I am hooked. It it is something you are going to use, and you have limited shop time, it's amazing. If you aren't going to use it often, make M&T joints. There are 32 joints on the kitchen helper, with the domino I was done cutting them in about 2 hours (and that was my first time using one). If I was batching out M&T joints it would have taken me 8-12 hours, but I am pretty slow with them.
wouldwurker
If you can find someone, at least spend a few hours there, measuring and plunging the mortises yourself (and then offer to sweep up). Otherwise, it might as well be one of those model cars that you just snap together.
TMFoughty
It looks like M&T joints it will be. I do not want to use dowels. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
