HunterL
Hey guys. Pulled this piece out of the press this morning and there is some shiny spots. It's walnut burl. I've tried my card scraper but it doesn't seem to be very effective. I also CAREFULLY went over it with 180 grit with my ETS 125. Thoughts? HunterL
Here's a picture of the other piece before trying anything on it. And here's the first piece after lightly sanding with 180. It only sat overnight, is it possible these spots could "dry" away? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
TerryMcK
My guess is once you have sealed all the pores, lightly sanded and finished you won't see anything. If you do chances are nobody else will. Don't point it out and nobody will be none the wiser.
HunterL
Ok thanks Terry, I had less squeeze through on the top and bottom, as I was more careful to spread light and even.
Trip
Which adhesive? Some dry hard and take finish well -- finish sander, hand sanding and you're done.... Others --- we'll, got more veneer??
HunterL
Betterbond's dark veneer glue from VeneerSupplies.com I've got more veneer, its the Spanish cedar that's in short supply here! Trip
I’ve used BB on a project or two. Dries reasonably hard – but takes time to cure… Haven’t had to deal with squeeze-through using BB myself, but suspect it’s going to be an issue – sorry… You might as well give it a good cure before more sanding… Drying and curing are two diferent things... Two things to try… 1-eMail Joe… He’s always replied to my questions within 24 hrs and given good advice – he’s a sharp cookie… 2- Gin-up a test panel with some squeeze-through, sand-it out and try your planned finish schedule. Make a panel large enough to test a couple of variations… Do you have spray gear? When I’ve gotten lots of squeeze-out, I’ve shot a seal coat of #1ct SuperBlonde, then lacquer… Covered a multitude of sin...
HunterL
I emailed Joe, and my buddy came over and gave it a shot with the cabinet scraper with great success. I just wasn't confident enough using it on the veneer but I think it'll work out now. We'll see what Joe says!
