Bobby Slack
OK so I am dry fitting my stiles and rails on the gate with my loose tenons and i jammed one in and ... it will not come out! This is so frustrating. My preference is not to ruin it but if it is not possible ... any ideas? I rather look stupid to you guys than to my wife ... you all know what I mean. BuilderBill
1) Clamp the tenon in a vise. Crank it down really, really, really tight. 2) Put a piece of scrap over the edge of the stile or rail it's stuck in. 3) Get your biggest hammer and flail away. If that doesn't work, get a bigger hammer. If you beat on it long and hard enough, it'll come out. 4) Make new parts as needed. Hopefully, just another tenon.... BTW, I'm assuming the tenon is just stuck in one member. If both are stuck, repeat as needed. HTH, Bill
wilburpan
Bill has said what I would do. But if it's stuck that tight, do you really need to get it out to glue it again? Think of it as the one piece where you made an integral tenon instead of loose tenons.

Bobby Slack
Good point, I never thought about this. The rest of the gate will be glued with West Systems epoxy. Each one of these "loose" tenons will be pinned. Thanks. Bill has said what I would do. But if it's stuck that tight, do you really need to get it out to glue it again? Devin M
Could you just try to use two clamps as spliters- Clamp the stile in the work bench, put a clamp on each side and push it off
Bobby Slack
Here is the picture of the un-loose tenon on the stile
harmsdph
I agree with Wilbur if its truly "stuck" peg it like the others and move on
nateswoodworks
You could easily cut the loose tenon off flush and re-route the mortise. Nate
Bobby Slack
Nate, thanks. This is exactly what I did. Why does it take so long to come up with an answer. It took me two days to solve something very simple. Sometimes I think I am soooooooo dumb. You could easily cut the loose tenon off flush and re-route the mortise. iSawitFirst
I was gonna say cut the tenon flush and drill it out. Same thing, I guess.
Bobby Slack
Reading all these posts helps. I was glad not to damage my stile and fix this thing.
