No hot date for me.  Just a quick and practical piece for the kitchen.  I inherited a decent quality Calphalon pan but it lacked a lid.  This is a piece of spruce from the junk pile, so we'll see how long it lasts.  Good news for now is that you can grab it without a pot holder.

Looks nice, keep it as decoration, but don't try cooking with it.

1. The steam will warp it.

2. The internal heat could ignite it

3. The heat coming up around the edges of the pan will char the rim and probably ignite it.

4. The smoke will stink up the house.

There is a reason that pot lids are made of metal, tempered glass or high temp plastics.

Indeed, I already cooked breakfast with it this morning and none of the above came to pass.  It only spends a few minutes on the heat, covering a sunny side egg or two, so there's not enough time to set it alight.  Likewise, there's not enough water vapor involved (a pot for spaghetti, OTOH, would be another matter) to worry me for warpage.

As I said, it was a quick and cheap fix.  As a bonus, I got to practice the same sort of skills involved in turning a platter.
