I'm personally not super keen on the home made track for a circular saw.I have two different saws, and  I have two guides and even using the blade to cut it to zero clearance,  the cut quality is still garbage you have to constantly maintain downward and sideways pressure across or along a 48" or 100" cut.. maybe it's my lack of dexterity but I don't think it's anywhere near as good as what you try to mimic.

You have to have a decent circ saw & blade. the outboard cut edge is garbage, but the inboard cut where the blade runs against the guide is very good. I found the key to using the guide is to rub a little wax on it for low friction. Then it's easy to keep it against the edge of the guide.

Seems to me the biggest advantages of a purpose-made track saw system are plunge cutting and dust collection. A shop-built guide and circular saw will can give you nice straight cuts, but with a bit more bother, and a lot more mess

That's about it. A track saw is great, but if funds are limited, a shop built guide will certainly get the job done.
