rmac
I need to remove the finish from some built-in cabinets. They are made from a combination of oak plywood and solid oak trim. It's easy enough to just sand the solid parts down to the bare wood, but I'm afraid about getting too enthusiastic and sanding through the veneer layer on the plywood. Do I need to just be careful? Or use some kind of chemical stripper (never tried this before)? Any other hints? Thanks, -- Russ
AceHoleInOne
Yes I would chemical strip. -Ace-
rmac
Yes I would chemical strip. -Ace- Thanks, Ace. That's sorta what I was thinking. Like I said, I've never used a chemical stripper before. FWIW, I'm dealing with some sort of clear finish on top of some sort of stain, applied roughly 25 years ago. Past that, I don't know much about it. Can you recommend a product? Is there any more to know than "read the can and do what it says"? -- Russ
AceHoleInOne
Click Me Also get one of those BBQ brushes with brass wire. Works great helping to remove chemical stripper from tight areas. Use a wide blade putty knife at first to remove most of the lifted finish. Once the heavy grunge is off, coarse steel wool and work with the grain. May take 2 or 3 applications. -Ace-
