Lambo41
I’m in the process of making a hickory barn wood style table. I need to join bread board ends. The pieces are @ 9” wide x 1/2” thick. I was going to use mortise and tenon process but I don’t know how I’m going to make a 6” or so deep mortise. Any ideas. gee-dub
There will be a challenge in supporting any "elbow leaning" on a 9" breadboard. Why so wide . . . and a better question, why so thin? What is the thickness of your table top? With these answers we can provide you better feed back
RichardA
When you answer GeeDub, answer this... Where is the mortise going to be? In the breadboard or the table top? And again why so thin?
gee-dub
Here are a few methods but, with your dimensions there will be a challenge in execution and in suitability. This is pretty typical: This is the method I mostly use: This is a Domino variation: This is a breadboard that is probably not well scaled to the Dominos intended to support it. The first goof to rest a hip on the end of the table during a family gathering will probably get a surprise: Despite using the "thirds" rule of thumb for sizing tenons or a spline for 1/2" material there is just not a lot of material left to support the joint.
