gardnesd
They use mahogany like we use dimensional lumber. Every night last week I slept on the bottom of a bunk bed made from Ec Mahogany. Some of the slats underneath the top bunk wer 14 inches wide. Some were "curly". I resisted the urge to pack one in my suitcase. One of the US guys there said he built a structure using 6x6 mahogany beams. they were 10 feet long and cost $13...oh my.
Stampy
Makes you wonder who is making all the money off of mahogany we buy up here. I'm guessing no one in Ecuador? Like buying cedar in the Pac NW. It is everywhere and we pay a fortune for it.
Bobby Slack
We all do things with wood and nothing is as easy as it looks. That wood has to be processed, shipped, packed, etc.
gardnesd
Yes, from what I saw in Ecuador we get the top $helf $tuff here. Saw lots of "spalted" mahogany there. Never seen it before.
