Lifesaver2000
Since the last update in July, I have been unable to open the free Wood Whisperer app on my iPod Touch. I have a second generation Touch, with the latest iOS version that supports that model (4.2.1 I think it is). I have uninstalled/reinstalled, restarted and done all the usual stuff to try to get it to work, but no luck. What happens is that the splash screen appears for a few seconds, then disappears. I hadn't mentioned this before since the app lists Nicole as the author and I suspected she had more important things to worry about around that time, but since her appearance in a recent video I thought it might be appropriate to mention it now. Prior to the July update, I had been using the App regularly with no problems. So, the question is: Is the older version of iOS no longer supported intentionally, or are there plans to fix this problem? I saw a couple of reviewers in the App Store mention it also, so I know I am not the only one with this problem. If the latest update uses some feature of the later iOS version that is necessary for the new Wood Whisperer app, is it possible to upload the older app version under another name for those of us still using the older iPod Touch / iOS? Thanks for reading.
chicks82
It does not work with iOS 5 either.
nicolespag
Hey guys, I'm in the process of rebuilding the app and resubmitting. The new OS pretty much killed it. It also takes over a week for apple to approve so I'm hoping to have the new version available late next week or early the week after. Sorry for the problems, but that sometimes happens when a new OS or update comes out. Nicole
PaulMarcel
In the submission, put down "Emergency fix for iOS 5 incompatibilities" and you'll magically be moved to the front of the queue (after others who did the same). I did that at 4am on a Friday and they started reviewing it 4 hours later and approved 3 hours later. If you check "developer will release", you can go back and edit out that scary "Emergency" thing since that box does appear in the AppStore description (much to my surprise). Joraft
Reading this thread leaves me with a few very obvious questions. What's an iPod, what's an "app" and what's an iOS?
nicolespag
Thanks so much for the tip Paul. I've submitted the update today. Should be interesting to see how fast or slow it will go through. Joraft your questions are pretty big picture questions. iOS is an operating system on the iPhone and iPod mobile devices. An iphone is this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPhone and iPod is this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ipod. An app is just a program that has a specific purpose of running on either the iphone or ipod. I created one specifically for The Wood Whisperer. It's just another way a fan of the site can view and interact with the content we provide. It's not required to enjoy the website, just another way.
