Pbmaster11 Posted November 13, 2011 Report Posted November 13, 2011 When you fellow WW'ers are modeling your next project do you use 3/4" for plywood or the actual dimensions (23/32") Quote
areynoldsre Posted November 14, 2011 Report Posted November 14, 2011 I use 3/4" in the model. It's a bit easier to model that way and plywood is rarely that consistent when you buy it - not all of it is even 23/32. The real thickness depends on the manufacturer, day of the week, the direction the wind is blowing... and I have set my sketchup default model to snap to a 1/16 inch grid. I find that for most of my projects that is close enough. so I just use 3/4 in the model and make adjustments in the shop as needed depending on what I was able to buy. And it's rare that a sketchup model of mine is 100% the same as what comes out of the shop. I do just enough modeling to get a good sense of the style, over all dimensions, material estimate, etc. Quote

areynoldsre Posted November 14, 2011 Report Posted November 14, 2011 go to the window menu, model info, then units. There you can set precision and enable length snapping. you can also set angle snapping. Not everyone will like to set those but I find it helpful. Quote
