CessnaPilotBarry Posted January 11, 2013 Report Posted January 11, 2013 I have the same situation with my Excalibur overarm guard. It's why I haven't even considered installing my router lift in the side table. I have an Excalibur myself... Do you have an older version? Mine lifts on and off without tools. I don't have a router in my saw, but I do remove the guard for crosscuts longer than 54 or-something inches. With the right hose, or a finger removable hose clamp, it's cake. I love the guard, though... no interference with most sleds, and it swings away for tenon jigs, box miter cradles, slicing lids, blade changes, etc... Quote
Vic Posted January 13, 2013 Report Posted January 13, 2013 Barry, I've never had to do cross cuts over the 54" on the right side of the blade. I can do full sheet crosscuts on the left with the Excalibur slider. I love the overarm blade guard, too. I hate get crap in my face and yes, mine is tool-less also. Quote
CessnaPilotBarry Posted January 14, 2013 Report Posted January 14, 2013 Vic, Yours is different... My yellow pipe is "L" shaped... Like this: http://www.amazon.com/Excalibur-Over-Arm-Blade-Cover/dp/B0032YT1EW I've never been able to find out what the differences are between the two versions. I have a wall 44" to the left, so I have to ditch the pipe for long crosscuts. Quote
ChetlovesMer Posted January 14, 2013 Report Posted January 14, 2013 Okay, here's my low tech version. Bastically it's a 5 dollar blast gate from Menards. A 2 dollar bungie cord. And a piece of old shop vac hose. (The hose shown in the picture is a corrugated hose, I've since switched to a non-corrugated, but it looks just the same.) When I'm not using the blade guard I just close the blast gate, unplug the hose from the blade guard and let it dangle. Cheap and effective. Quote

JMort847 Posted January 22, 2013 Report Posted January 22, 2013 Outstanding design and build! It gives me ideas to revamp the one I made for my contractor's saw. Quote
