woodwolf
I'm new to this forum so I need to learn how to take advantage of all that is available, I.E. "Pick your brain" for information and guidance on future projects. Wood working was my main job as a carpenter, (framing) in my later years, (I'm 77,) I began to build bird houses as a "wood therapy" enjoyable pass time. Never sold them, stuck 'em all over my trees, and around the neighborhood where it seemed needed. ... I've recently been introduced to a router and I love it. However, I'm completely ignorant to all its potentilals. (this is where you come in.) So, any help would be appreciated. My main interest is inlay. At the moment I'm buying bits to begin. I have a Porter-Cable 1001 and a cheap trim router I used for bird houses I already have run into a couple of problems I'm hoping I can find answers to. First is, I live in Modesto Ca. and I don't know where to find/buy the thin, (1/8 and up) woods to do inlays with. I don't have the equipment to mill my own and need to buy them accordingly. (zebra wood, olive wood, etc.) Well, that's it in a nut shell for now. Oh,one more thing, how do I see if I get an answer or directions to locate a store that can provide my needs? Thanks for your time in reading this, I'm excited to start a new "wood therapy" life. I'm American Indian, (Cherokee,) and love wood because it brings me so close to nature and I can make it into something beautiful if I develop the right skills. TimV
Hi Woodwolf. Welcome! I don't have any answers to help you find the material near you, I'm in the Midwest. But I'm sure someone will be around shortly that can.
