woodmang Posted September 22, 2012 Report Posted September 22, 2012 In episodes 57-70 (The Gadget Station) I noticed a small brass looking hammer that Marc was using for chiseling and other functions. Does anyone know the name of this type of hammer and / or where I could get one? Thanks for your help! Quote
Trip Posted September 22, 2012 Report Posted September 22, 2012 glen-drake http://glen-drake.com/ before you purchase, get his tool dvd / video. if you order from him, he'll customize the handle for your hand... Quote
thewoodwhisperer Posted September 22, 2012 Report Posted September 22, 2012 I should add that while they are top of the line hammers, I generally don't recommend them. I bought mine while I was under the influence of woodworking kool aid. I think a simple brass mallet will suffice for about half the price. Something like this: http://www.leevalley.com/US/wood/page.aspx?p=30263&cat=1,41504,43688 But, if you really want the best and don't mind the premium, I think you'll be happy with the Glen Drake models. fransikaner Posted September 22, 2012 Report Posted September 22, 2012 I agree with Marc - circular mallets give you a little more dexterity. I have the LV and also use a Blue Spruce - each with their own strengths. Quote
woodmang Posted September 22, 2012 Author Report Posted September 22, 2012 Thank you all! Honestly I am just looking for a smaller hammer for just those purposes where a full dead blow is over kill. I will take a look at the Lee Valley. I will have to check out the cost of the Glen Drake, I wasn't aware it was that custom! Quote
Trip Posted September 22, 2012 Report Posted September 22, 2012 ==> I agree with Marc - circular mallets give you a little more dexterity. don't think marc said that... he was commenting on expense, not type. The job dictates the type of striking tool to select --- some jobs lend themselves to mallet-type and some to chisel-hammer-type. Quote
