Rail to Foot board connection

I don't know where this was discussed, but I was thinking about this joint and think a dry large mortise and tenon and a "bench bolt" type connection in where the nut would be buried in the foot board lamination and bolt or bolts housed in dado, then a strip glued in to hold bolt in place on underside or rail. Or my other thought is to use a pair of handrail bolt connectors called a "Zip Bolt" with the dry fit tenon with the bolt part in foot board and "Zip" part in the side rail. What do you all think?
