Tpt life Posted January 8, 2013 Report Share Posted January 8, 2013 I have aquired a substantial amount of Massaranduba that was being discarded due to improper handling of climate triggered instability in a decking situation. I cannot find good technical recommendations for appropriatly dealing with gluing or sealing this strikingly beautiful wood although many suppliers are beginning to pitch this wood as a substitute for scarce Ipe. chicks82 Posted January 8, 2013 Report Share Posted January 8, 2013 From what I have read you should use glues like Gorilla Glue. Thats what I read just from a quick search online. dwacker Posted January 8, 2013 Report Share Posted January 8, 2013 Use it like any other hard wood. I built a set of cabinets for a buddy that gets it for free. Tpt life Posted January 8, 2013 Author Report Share Posted January 8, 2013 Thank you for your responses. I saw explosive expansion, warping, and cupping on the deck I saw. The expansion occurred after rain and I suspected that moisture and UV damage were culprits. I could not find someone with experience enough to say with certainty what the true cause of instability was but it blew poly glue and epoxy right apart. I am assuming that sealing out moisture then is key. Since you have had success with standard glues in interior settings, do you mind sharing how you treated the exposed surfaces of your cabinets Don? dwacker Posted January 8, 2013 Report Share Posted January 8, 2013 Sherwin william precat lacquer. My buddy works at mcfarland cascade and get this and ipe off cuts for free.
