Turning Blanks for a Wood Plane?

A lot of those turning blanks are green wood that has been waxed or sealed. It could move, twist, shrink, crack etc.

I haven't made any wooden planes but I know you need stable wood to do it. Just ask a lot of questions and find some experienced guidance picking the right blocks for a first plane. Maybe start with a kit?
