AshMatt Presley Posted April 15, 2014 Report Share Posted April 15, 2014 Hello, my husband just finished my farm house bed and we stained it and espresso color, we are wanting/needing to put a finish on top of that we really don't want it to be too shiny is there anything that yall would recommend... wdwerker Posted April 15, 2014 Report Share Posted April 15, 2014 You can rub most finishes with an abrasive pad to knock down the gloss. I use a red pad and follow it with a gray pad. It will take a semigloss shine down to a dull satin gleam. I spray water bourne finishes in my shop but this trick works with almost any finish. Danish oil is easy to apply but it might end up rubbing some of the stain off. Thin coats of a wiping varnish would work as well. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
