Duckduckcuse
Hello, Sanding down to bare wood. How do I get a golden amber, which was the original finish color on beech wood. Tried oiling but leaves it too light. Should I try gel stain, tinted oils? Can I stain lightly then oil? Would just lacquer bring this out? I do like the oil look. Thanks a ton. wtnhighlander
If you like a film finish, try amber shellac, followed by a top coat of polyurathane. On a scrap or incinspicuous area of the piece first, of course.
Guest
keep in mind that golden amber is partially due to age. Most oil and solvent based finishes yellow with time. Amber shellac will give you a head start. Applying a light coat of an oil-based finish and leaving out in the sun for a day will also help.
