wdwerker Posted August 14, 2016 Report Share Posted August 14, 2016 If the back / bottom looks like a brown paper sack it's a thin version of Laminate (Formica ) that won't take a finish unless you want to prime and paint it. It would help if you sealed up the raw particleboard edges. Paint or varnish would work just fine. It looks like the face is probably wood grain printed on vinyl which won't take a finish.
