Here's a smattering of the 2,700+ end grain pics from the anatomy pages. This should show pretty clearly why I keep telling everyone that the end grain can be so useful in doing wood ID: These are all 1/4" x 1/4" cross sections and they show up a bit bigger than this on the site 2 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

As I said, they are 1/4" x 1/4". to figure the zoom factor you have to take your screen resolution into account. On my system they are 12X but as I also said, they show up here smaller than the originals.
