  1. this was made as a thank you to one of my neighbours for supplying me with a pile of hardwood. it is made in European oak with Mahogany inlay. It was finished with 2 pac lacquer and the inside is felt lined.
  2. I have just finished this small table in Oak for a customer. It is a table for a laptop computer and made so it can be used sitting on the couch. The design is to match the other furniture in the room. the apron uses mitred tenons and the lower rails are straight tenons. The top and shelf are made with breadboard ends and are glued in the centre with screws in slotted holes at the outer ends. Top is held in place with buttons and the shelf with screws in slotted holes. It is finished in a clear 2K lacquer. Thanks for looking.
  3. I haven't been on for a while as I have been busy with work. So I thought I would post up my latest commissions for you to see. The first is an alcove wardrobe in painted MDF with sliding doors and a pull out shoe rack. Next is another set of wardrobes, again in painted MDF but a more standard set-up with double hangers and top box storage. and finally another set of wardrobes in painted MDF but with mirrored doors and integral drawers. All your opinions, good and bad appreciated, thanks guys.
  4. Very nice table there. I do agree about taking the top off the cutter drawer though.
  5. Excellent work. If these are your first then you are destined to become a craftsman.
  6. I did think the same thing Don. I always pre finish the panel before assembling. Any glue squeeze out can then be simply wiped off without any staining.
  7. After moving into a new bigger shop this is the first project from it. It is a shoe cabinet in AWO. The panels are veneered MDF and the hinges are Bum soft close. Top drawer is for keys etc. It is finished in 2K clear laquer.
  8. Well chet, the carvings were cut out of 6mm MDF and then the edges were rounded over with a router and template. Finally they were glued into place and sanded into the door.
  9. I have just finished fitting this bedroom suite for one of my customers. It has taken around three weeks to build. It is made of Moisture resistant MDF and painted in AC laquer. I cut the mouldings out of 6mm MDF and shaped them into the doors and drawer fronts. All of the drawers are on soft closers as are the doors. I added a green felt lining for the dressing table drawer for effect. Two coats of primer were sprayed on and then a chocolate colour was added to allow me to cut through the top coat to reveal the chocolate. Customer was very happy with them. Here is the dressing table. These are on the opposite side of the room And this is the interior drawers in those too.
  10. I am not sure about making the profile for the pistols but once you have you could use flocking to line the box. I made a cutlery canteen a little while ago and made a similar thing for the serving set in the top of the box. I used a router and hand sanding to cut some MDF into the shapes of the utensils and then put a green flocking over the whole thing. It turned out very well and looked like green baize had been applied to the insides of the canteen. HTH. I have some photos in my galleries on here if you do a search. Sorry I have just had a look and there are better photos of the inside of it in the crittique section under cutlery canteen. HTH.
  11. Sorry I didn't see this reply until now. I used the Dakota dovetail jig to cut those. The jig is only 15" long so I moved it along the timber lining up the cutter at the end of each piece.
  12. Hey congrats you two. I guess you will be joining the midnight walkers now then. Soon be in the shop with you Mark.
  13. I was asked to make a toybox seat for a customer. It was an urgent job as he wants to deliver it next week. After returning from the timber merchants at 10am this morning with a 10' x 2' laminated pine board I got building. By the end of the day around 7pm I had this completed: I still have to rout the childs name on it and add some soft close stays but was very pleased with what I had achieved in a day.
  14. The computer desk in the posting was my work. I do quite a lot of work in MDF and usually spray it for a good finish. To get a smooth high gloss finish I use a 2K Acid catlist laquer paint. Over here it made by a company named Morrells. I use their own 2K primer which is made for sealing MDF. I also use Moisture resistant MDF which is a little denser than the usual fluffy stuff. I give the edges of the MDF two coats of primer with one all over coat on the face and then sand with 320 grit. I then spray two coats of 2K colour on and leave it overnight to harden before wet sanding with 1000 grit and then machine polishing to a high gloss. Of course there are different sheens available and the computer desk was sprayed in a satin sheen of 20%. I hope this helps you in your quest for a good finish. Here is one of the high gloss ones I have made in the past.
  15. Yes tdale51, the customer is refurbishing two Victorian buildings that are side by side. He also owns more property in the area and some of them are listed buildings so there will be more work for me in the future I am glad to say. The customer picked these up today and was very impressed and promised to use me again for his other 'projects'. Great result I thought.
