The magnetic field generated by the motors running draws them.

If this were true, they would be attracted as soon as I turn the circular saw on, but in my experience it's only during the wood being cut that the flies swarm. As soon as the blade makes it through the wood, the flies disperse. I suppose it is fair to say that the saw is working harder when cutting the wood as opposed to spinning freely, which would generate more energy. I just kind of assumed it was more vibration or sound wave related.

Cicadas have been doing suicide by circular saws here for years in Sunny Florida. I was a carpenter for 35 years and I always thought they were drawn in by either the pitch of the sound or vibration. If anyone knows if it’s either or neither please enlighten me, thanks.

A bizarre phenomenon and I wondered if anyone else has experienced the same:  Frequently when running a power tool out in our driveway or on the back porch, a half dozen flies will be attracted to the tool.  They're big houseflies and they don't bite or do anything uncivilized; but they seem drawn to my router like moths to a flame.  When I shut off the tools, they lose interest and disperse.

This sort of thing happen to anyone else?

I was cutting a portion of my gutter the other day with a reciprocating saw and noticed like 15 large house flies (that I hadn’t noticed before) all of a sudden glued themselves to the vibrating gutter. Like you said, once the tool and vibrations stopped, they dispersed.
