wouldwurker
This might be my new favorite finish when I want: Tough as nails Glossy Looks great after 2 or 3 coats And food/baby safe Here's a link to the msds. Certainly different than other butcher block oils on the market which I'm told are just mineral spirits. http://hpd.nlm.nih.gov/cgi-bin/household/brands?tbl=brands&id=18010138 First coat is very akin to Danish oil. Wipe on/wipe off, and if a Danish oil type finish is desired, one coat would be just fine. Scuff and second coat goes on like arm-r-seal, but due to its higher viscosity, that second coat builds fast. 3rd coat even thicker. It's not cheap, but 3 coats builds like like 7 coats of arm r seal, but more forgiving. And because it wipes on, and the food/baby safe rating, it might be my new go to for toys (and gifts that I don't have time for an arm-r-seal treatment). Also, compared to shellac and water based finishes, I can see the results that only oil can deliver. Downside. Because it builds so thick, it does feel a bit more 'plasticy' than several coats of say, Arm r seal. However for toys and kid stuff, that's ok with me. Here's a finished cutting board - 3 coats. wdwerker
Yea It is kinda pricey but that's what I use on cutting boards and small projects. I never exceed 3 coats and I make each one pretty thin.
