elrodk Posted July 21, 2016 Report Share Posted July 21, 2016 Too late for the OP but for anyone who is concerned about distributing the weight on more than two studs here is what you need to do. Get some 3/4 plywood, not osb for roof sheathing but real 3/4 plywood. Screw the ply to every stud every 6 inches. Use screws that will go at least 2"-3" into the studs. If you position it against the ceiling you can add a 2x6 on top overlapping the ply and tie it into the roof trusses. This won't go anywhere without the whole wall following.
