JayWC Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 A week or so ago I finally finished a small shop project. Once I started it didn't take that long. I built two of these boxes for my work bench. They hang on the horizontal rail on either side of the bench. All you have to do is lift them up to reposition them. Both can be on one side or one on each side. The bottom is a piece of stainless steel expanded mesh. This allows saw dust and wood chips to drop through. It also allows for screw drivers or other tools to stick through. I recently started putting the long driver for my Kreg screw down through there too when attached to my impact driver. It keeps me from knocking the driver off the bench and it keeps it from falling out of the box. They are made from some leftover poplar I had with a couple coats of tung oil. Comments welcome. Quote
JimB1 Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 They look pretty handy. Looks like if you want to get them out of the way, you can just hang them on the sides under the top overhang too... Cool idea! -Jim Quote
gilliom Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 Great storage boxes! I think I'll make a couple with french cleats and the expanded metal bottom. I have two assembly tables with the cleats on them. I like that the dust and chips fall through the holes. Quote
JayWC Posted February 18, 2011 Author Report Posted February 18, 2011 Another pic before final sanding and oiling. You can better see the construction. Do you think I should patent the idea? I'm thinking the big bench makers might have interest. Quote
