Kimmy Posted July 31, 2019 Report Posted July 31, 2019 I am learning woodworking for in my retirement. I want to make fishing rod holders and what I want to do for the butt of the rod will be about 1/8" deep and not quite as big around as a coaster. Just large enough for the rod. How do I get type of cut accomplished? Straight router bit? Kimberly Quote
gee-dub Posted July 31, 2019 Report Posted July 31, 2019 Welcome! A bowl bit and a template would work if you want the base to sidewall to be curved. A spoilboard bit or sikilar would work in the same way but, leave a sharp, flat bottom edge. A quick sketch or picture of what you are trying to achieve will get you more accurate answers. Quote
G Ragatz Posted July 31, 2019 Report Posted July 31, 2019 If you have a drill press, you could make that type of cut with a large Forstner bit: https://www.amazon.com/MLCS-9245H-3-Inch-Diameter-Forstner/dp/B00EPBVKZO/ref=asc_df_B00EPBVKZO/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=241941495556&hvpos=1o2&hvnetw=g&hvrand=9890833922962249329&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1019264&hvtargid=pla-437106849838&psc=1 Quote
